WORDTRAK

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Wordtrak?

A daily (and 1v1 competitive) word game. You're dealt a hand of letters and spell words across traks. For the daily game, the highest score wins! For 1v1 games, the higher score on each trak wins it - best your opponent for the majority of traks to win the game. Read the full rules here.

Is Wordtrak free?

Yes. You can play today's Daily right away without an account. Sign up to save your score to the leaderboard and keep your history across devices.

Do I have to play traks in order?

No. Tap any unplayed trak and take them in whatever order you like. Each trak can only be played once per game, so spend your best words where they matter most.

What words are valid?

Any word in the Wordtrak dictionary. If a word is rejected, it's either not in our list or it uses letters that aren't in your hand. Slurs and explicit terms are never playable.

Can I suggest words?

Yes. When a word you're sure is real gets rejected, you can suggest it right from the game. We review every suggestion and add the good ones to the dictionary.

How do you make sure the game is fair?

In the Daily, everyone in the world plays the exact same board that day, so it's a level field. In 1v1, both players are dealt the same starting hand from identical letter bags - the outcome comes down to the words and traks you choose, not luck of the draw. Every word is checked against the same dictionary for both players.

How is scoring calculated?

Each letter has a point value. Trak bonuses boost your score: 2L/3L multiply a single letter, 2W/3W multiply the whole word, and filling every slot earns a fill bonus. Unfilled slots at the end of a trak cost a small penalty. See the full scoring rules.

What can I buy in the Shop, and how does each item work?

In the Daily you spend points you've banked from words on items that bend the rules. Your final score is what you earn minus what you spend, so every purchase is a bet.

Swaps (use any time):

  • Swap (3 pts) - trade picked letters for fresh draws.
  • Vowel Swap (5 pts) - trade picked letters, draw only vowels.
  • Consonant Swap (5 pts) - trade picked letters, draw only consonants.

Tiles (drop straight into your hand):

  • Wildcard (10 pts) - pick any letter. It scores 0 but counts toward filling a trak.
  • Hotdog (5 pts) - a filler worth 0 points. It ends the word where you place it, with no penalty or bonus for it or the slots after.

Trak upgrades (tap an unplayed trak to apply):

  • Switch (10 pts) - reverse a trak's modifiers, so a 2L on the first tile moves to the last.
  • Hoptoad (10 pts) - hop a tile off a trak, shortening it by one (down to 3).
  • Extra Stop (10 pts) - add a tile to a trak, lengthening it by one (up to 7).

Which items can I buy more than once?

The swaps and tiles - Swap, Vowel Swap, Consonant Swap, Wildcard and Hotdog - are unlimited; buy as many as you can afford. The trak upgrades (Switch, Hoptoad and Extra Stop) are one of each per game.

When is there a new Daily?

Every day! A fresh Daily puzzle drops at midnight Eastern, and the leaderboard resets with it.
